S. MICHAEL KUNATH

Michael Kunath is a portfolio manager and principal of Kunath Karren Rinne & Atkin.  In addition to participating on the Investment Committee and managing balanced, fixed income and stock portfolios for our clients, Mike holds primary responsibility for defining the investment framework of the firm.

Mike is one of the founding partners of KKRA, establishing the firm with Ned Karren and Bruce Rinne in 1983.  Prior to creating KKRA, Mike was a founding partner of Sirach Partners in the early 1980’s and a Vice President of Institutional Sales for Bache Halsey Stuart Shields and Piper Jaffray.  Mike was also a Vice President and Principal of Herron Northwest in the late 1960’s and early 1970’s.  He began his career in the investment department of Peoples National Bank in 1965 following three years of military service, retiring with the rank of captain.

Mike earned his B.A. and M.B.A. from Seattle University, and served as Contributing Financial Editor to Pacific Business in the early 1980’s.  Mike is frequently quoted in the Northwest press, particularly in articles concerning the investment climate and investment strategy.  He has played a leading role in a variety of non-profit organizations, including the YWCA, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, The Seattle Biomedical Research Institute and Leukemia Society of America.  Mike is Past President of the Seattle Bond Club, Past President of the Seattle University Alumni Association and a past member of the University’s Board of Regents.  He co-founded the Graduate School of Business Student Association as well as its Graduate School of Business Alumni Association.  Mike has 40 years of investment experience.
